play D/W? use Scythe or other weapon's? - Guild Wars Forums

hi, im still new to this game and I was wondering if I should build a D/W. If I do build a D/W is it a good idea to keep the scythe or use a sword and get a shield for more def? thank you

If you're into dervishes and want to use warrior as your secondary, go for it.

Stick with scythe, though, the AoE damage and the higher damage make it more than enough. Plus dervishes have plenty of enchants to keep them alive

dont even go derv, dervs r way too common and im sick of it. should go with warrior or ranger. tanks (warrior) are almost always need for everything and rangers can changed there builds to adapt to the mission.

Dervishes are just fine to play, and you'll probably enjoy them. Search this forum or guildwiki for good dervish builds. You may have a bit of trouble getting into groups later on in that there is a glut of dervishes out there right now.

well, kinda depends on your style of gameplay. For PvE, a scythe is probably the best because it is powerful and can hit multiple targets. But in PvP, more often than not, only 1 person would fight u at a time, so a sword/axe/hammer would be much more powerful than the scythe due to thier attack speed and higher damage range plus a shield to help out. A scythe is still good in PvP against anything except rangers and warriors for they can easily counter your attacks (warrior has high base armor and stances, rangers has great armor vs elemental attacks which you would most likely use[ebon scythe]). I recommend using scythe because it is far more flexible than warrior weapons and plus, warrior weapons are generally usless without skills whereas a scythe can do tremendous damage without any skills saving more attribute points.
Any build is good, as long as you can dance with that build without getting yourself killed.

I would recommend sticking with the scythe in any kind of play if you are looking to do the most damage. If you want to turn your dervish into a tank, you might want to get a one handed weapon so that you can hold a shield. Really, it's all up to what you want to do with the character. Sometimes certain proffesions can do things entirely unexpected of them. EG tanking elementalists or monks.

Not a reason for him/her not to play a dervish and second part is personal opinion.

Dervishes can also Tank and yes Tanks arent always Warrior.

@ beliserius : Hammers have same speed as scyte,but scyte do AOE dmg.The other weapons are different.

To answer the question of the original poster.
Build whichever character you want Yes a D/W is a nice combo, very common in PVP.If you do make one, dervishers have other ways of protecting themselfs, thats why they dont need shields.About swaping to a warrior weapon,think about what you are losing or gaining.

If you were a warrior primary you would have access to strength attribute and you would be able to make the skill in it better. Defy Pain,Dolyak,Flourish some nice skills.
Also warriors have 80 armor (atleast)
If you were a dervish primary you would have acces to Mystiscm attibute , which gives you energy and health whenever a enchantment ends on you.
You also lose the abilty to make the Forms (God avatars) more effective.

You are right, hammers have the speed of scythe but hammers are more useful in PvP due to its knock down capabilities and its higher damage range (19-35) instead of (9-41) and i have often found that the tougher the oponent the less chance of you striking an critical or a max damage instead you would get results like 9-25 and sometimes spikes a 41 base damage ^^

Play what ever, they are all good for something

Ya, there's never enough wamos in an outpost. My Dervish can out tank most warriors in the game, and still have some exceptional damage output. Hell, a decent ele can out tank a typical warrior. Please, take your "need 2 monks, 2 warriors and something else for mission" mentality out of this thread.
